Roadmap
MyMobileWeb is a continuously developing project. It is currently being utilized by 9 Spanish partners, comprising of businesses (including SMEs), research institutes and universities, and is partially funded by the Spanish Ministry of Industry (FIT-350401-2006-2).
In 2007, MyMobileWeb became a CELTIC-Eureka project (CP4-020) comprising of partners from Spain as well as partners from other countries. The project was identified as a CELTIC flagship project due to the good ratings and comments received from authorities during the evaluation process.
With respect to the technical roadmap, the evolution of MyMobileWeb centers around the development of tools, the implementation of new and emerging standards as well as the implementation of the MobileWeb 2.0 and 3.0 concepts (Semantic Mobile Web).
Tools
Tools are key in achieving maximum productivity in the development of applications and portals. There is a beta version of an Eclipse Plug-in that assists the developer in the creation, development and deployment of projects with future versions expected to include a graphical tool suite that will simplify the design of authored units and the screen flow of applications.
Innovative standards development and adoption
Standardization is crucial for the implementation of the Mobile Web. With this is mind, MyMobileWeb contributes to several W3C working groups:
- Device Description Working Group (DDWG), which aims to define a device description repository (DDR) with an API standard and an interoperable API. MyMobileWeb will be one of the first open source tools to interoperate with any W3C-compliant DDR.
- Ubiquitous Web Applications Working Group (UWA), which aims to define a device-independent declarative format for applications and user interfaces. The MyMobileWeb language has been discussed in this working group as a possible candidate for future standardization.
MyMobileWeb also plans to adopt currently developing standards in the area of device independence (DISelect, DIAL, DCI) and Compound Documents (CDF).
MobileWeb 2.0 and 3.0
This is the most innovative topic in the roadmap. MyMobileWeb aims to become a reference implementation of the Semantic Mobile Web concept. The Semantic Mobile Web (MobileWeb 2.0 and 3.0) is a Mobile Web that fully exploits integrated semantics (folksonomies and ontologies) which will enable the description of delivery context, user profile, tastes and preferences. These details, in addition to the semantic annotation of contents and presentation, will be used to:
- Provide semantic content adaptation and repurposing, while maintaining thematic consistency, which will leverage classical content adaptation approaches.
- Enable context-awareness. Context-awareness will be available thanks to the combination of the delivery context information (broadband, location, time, moment, objects nearby, etc) and user context information. Context-awareness will be related to the development of value-added services that exploit content and service discovery while on the move.
Finally, it is important to mention that the MyMobileWeb declarative language will evolve towards the incorporation of:
- Advanced declarative models capable of defining multimodal interactions transparent to the developer.
- Rich multimedia content that fully exploits emerging standards (such as CDF).
- MobileAJAX interactions.
